Holiday Irony

Am I the only one who finds Barbara Streisand's Christmas Album to be the absolute height of irony?

I also find it wierd. I don't get the idea of having such songs. Although I don't see it paradoxial, your claim that it is an irony is a folley.

The paradox lies in the fact that the singer is overtly Jewish, but the album includes songs like "The Lords Prayer" and other overtly and unambiguously Christian numbers. There is further paradox in the singer's stated political opinions, which contraposition her against the so-called "religious right" (and this is a very Christian album), shallow commercialism, etc., etc.

:-)

It's still a good album, for all that -- she *is* a good singer with a great sense of delivery and performance, her hypocrisy notwithstanding. But, like you, I also find that I don't tend to go for holiday music in general.
