How it *should* have ended

Oh, sure, I comment quite frequently on books, movies, and music. But while I comment on things that are and things that could be, this one site shows how things should have been. Check out their archives regarding how Star Wars should have ended. Neat stuff.

I should also point out that their proposed ending for Lord of the Rings is remarkably similar to what Peter Schoaff discussed in a comment he'd posted here some time ago.

Thanks to Matt Kall for pointing this site out to me.

I last read _The Return of the King_ in 1983. When I saw the movie, I had commented to someone that they changed the ending, and that I liked the original much better. "What do you mean?," they replied.

So I explained how in the book Frodo gets the ring and starts to go power-mad, and Gollum recognizes what's going on, gets the ring, and INTENTIONALLY throws himself into the volcano. That provides the redemption of Gollum, and harkens back to something that Gandalf said in the mines of Moria, that Gollum had a key role to play in the drama that was unfolding.

A few poeople told me that I was wrong. So, I eventually went back to the book and discovered that I was mis-remembering the ending.

Nonetheless, MY ending was better.
